This exhibition is the first at Eskenazi Limited dedicated entirely to objects from the Chinese scholars' studio. Porcelain Fahua Vase (meiping)
Ming dynasty, 1368 - 1644
The classic tableau of a scholar in his mountain retreat, accompanied by a young attendant carrying a zither (qin) is the charming subject of this fahua vase. The scene is outlined in slip or fine threads of clay, enhanced by incising, then glazed in rich turquoise, navy, yellow and aubergine tones.
