  • Junyao

The exhibition is devoted entirely to Junyao, one of the 'five classic wares' of Song China. Jun ware is often listed as one of the ‘Five Classic Wares’ (wu da yao) of the Song dynasty (960 - 1279). Vessels were made over a long period of time, up to the early part of the Ming dynasty (1368 - 1644), at a number of kilns primarily in Henan province. The present exhibition comprises sixteen pieces of Jun ware, with examples spanning the four centuries of production. They range in shape from bowls and dishes to the jardinières known to have been used to decorate various halls and courtyards of the imperial palaces.
