    Glazed Stoneware Vase (meiping)

    Northern Song period, 11th - 12th century 
    Cizhou ware, Hebei or Henan province
     
    This meiping is a typical example of Northern Song ceramic vessels with a stamped ‘pearl’ background design and they form a specific sub-group within wares from the Cizhou kilns. The background design of ‘pearl’ or ‘fish roe’ pattern was created by stamping the leather-hard slip with a thin tube to remove small rings of white slip.
