塩月寿蓝出生于爱媛县四国岛，曾在别府工艺学院学习竹艺，随后师从竹艺家市原华云斋（1916—1995）。他于1976年开始展出他的作品，并于1982年首次在日本传统工艺品展上展出。自1990年代初期起，他不再参与传统展览，而是开始专注于创作实验性更强的作品，其中一些对九州和关西地区的年轻竹艺人启发很大。他的作品被纽约大都会艺术博物馆等机构收藏。
